In Jerry's case, as a multi-sport athlete in college, he understands the personal character that sports can build – the admirable attitude of teamwork and hard work, the dedication to pursuing goals and the exhilaration of achieving them. In his devotion to giving back to his community by spreading the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, Jerry has coached young people in more than 900 games in basketball, softball, baseball and soccer.
Along with the importance of physical fitness, Jerry also places an emphasis on the spiritual side of life. Currently, you'll find him serving as a Sunday school volunteer. Jerry has also served as an adult Sunday school leader, as a game leader in AWANA and as driver of the church bus.
In addition, Jerry is a huge animal lover. Each day, he finds time to feed the tiniest victims of the Cedar Rapids flood of 2008 – the stray cats and kittens that were abandoned and left behind. Working with the Iowa Humane Alliance, Jerry has rescued, spayed/neutered and found homes for over 30 cats.
Ever since Monica, our operations manager, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009, she has been active in support groups for others who’ve been diagnosed with cancer. She is team captain of the group she organized in 2008 for the annual Especially For You® Race Against Breast Cancer, held in Cedar Rapids every October as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In the past year alone, her team has grown from five to 15 members. Monica hopes the strength, determination and faith she portrayed throughout her diagnosis, surgeries and treatment will serve as encouragement to others.
Our branch accountant, Chuck, also finds it in his heart to give back, coaching youth sport programs in North Liberty and the Clear Creek Amana school district. He is also an Emeritus Ambassador with the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce.
